Gaby & Mark

I first met Gaby and her mum, Angela, in 2014, never imagining that I was about to become part of two weddings within the same family. Angela was getting married abroad in May, followed by Gaby’s wedding in November, and I had the wonderful privilege of designing both of their wedding gowns as well as dressing their bridal parties.

What I remember most fondly is how naturally their roles changed. When we were creating Angela’s wedding, Gaby was simply her bridesmaid. Months later, when it was Gaby’s turn, Angela became Mother of the Bride. Although their journeys were closely connected, it was important to me that each woman had her own moment. Two brides, two very different weddings and two completely individual experiences — all within one rather special family.

• My Journey: I first met Patricia at her boutique in October 2014 when I visited with my mum, Angela. As soon as Patricia suggested designing both our wedding dresses, along with all of the bridesmaids' dresses, we knew it was going to be a very special journey. Mum was getting married abroad in May and I was getting married later that year in November. We had so much fun throughout the whole process, but what amazed me most was how Patricia managed to make each wedding feel completely separate. At Mum's appointments I was simply one of her bridesmaids, and at my appointments Mum became the Mother of the Bride. Patricia made us both feel incredibly special and somehow managed to create two completely different bridal journeys, even though we shared some of the same bridesmaids and often had very similar taste. Seeing everything come together on the wedding day was simply magical and something my mum and I will always treasure.

• Wedding Dress: Gabrielle - Designed especially for Gaby under the Amelia Gray label, is a romantic lace A-line wedding gown with a beautifully soft, feminine silhouette. The fitted bodice features a sweetheart neckline framed by delicate lace cap sleeves, with lace flowing seamlessly from the bodice through the skirt. Subtle beaded detailing catches the light without overpowering the softness of the design, while the gently defined waist opens into a graceful A-line skirt. At the back, the gown flows into a beautiful cathedral-length train edged in lace, creating an elegant finish as Gaby walks. Romantic, timeless and wonderfully feminine, Gabrielle was completed with a cathedral-length veil designed especially for Gaby.

• Bridesmaid Gown: Sienna - Gaby's bridesmaids Bronwyn, Emma, Louise and Kim wore Sienna, custom-made Ella Rae bridesmaid gowns in a rich aubergine shade. Sienna has a beautifully elegant, understated silhouette with a softly draped V-neckline, wide shoulder straps and a gently fitted shape through the bodice. The clean simplicity of the design allowed the rich colour to take centre stage and provided a striking contrast to the softness of Gabrielle's ivory lace. Worn by all four bridesmaids, Sienna created a cohesive bridal party while allowing Gaby's bespoke wedding gown to remain the natural focus.
